Welcome To Moray Music Lessons

We are delighted to have you with us for music lessons.

Whether you’re joining us for your very first notes or picking up an instrument again, our goal is to make every lesson relaxed, encouraging, and fun.

We’ve put this page together so you have everything you need to know before your first visit - from where to find us to what to bring on day one.

Our Parent Waiting Area

You don’t need to wait out in the cold or sit in the car! We have seats in the building where you can wait, and we even have a small kitchen where you can make yourself a hot drink. We'll leave the heating on in that room during the colder days. Feel free to come in, take a seat, and wait while the lesson is on - or, if you prefer to drop off and nip into town for 30 minutes, just make sure you’re back a couple of minutes before the lesson finishes so you can catch up with your tutor.

What To Bring To Your Lessons

  • Guitar, Bass, Ukulele, Mandolin & Fiddle/Violin: Please bring your instrument (in a case or gig bag if you have one!). Don’t worry about cables, amps, or tuners - we have all of that ready in the teaching rooms. If your instrument needs tuned or set up, your tutor will happily help you sort it in the first lesson.

  • Drums & Piano: Obviously, no need to carry a piano or drum kit up the stairs! Our rooms are fully equipped. Drum students should bring a pair of drumsticks if they already have them (if not, we have spares you can borrow for lesson one).

  • Harmonica: Please bring your harmonica along (usually a standard 10-hole diatonic harmonica in the key of C, unless discussed otherwise with your tutor).

  • Books & Sheet Music: Please don’t feel you need to buy any books before your first lesson! If you already own books or music you’ve been working on, bring them along. Otherwise, your tutor will chat with you in lesson one, see where you’re at, and let you know if there is a specific book to pick up.

Bookings, Payments & The Important Bits

How Lessons & Bookings Work

We like to keep admin simple and transparent so we can focus on the music. Here is a quick summary of how things run:

  • Lesson Fees & Billing: Lessons are £21 per 30-minute session. All bookings and payments are handled automatically and securely through MakeMusic Studio, our online studio booking system. Once your payment card is set up on MakeMusic Studio, billing happens automatically - no need to remember cash or bank transfers each week.

  • Cancellations & Notice Period: Because your tutor’s time and studio room are reserved specifically for your slot each week, we require 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson. Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice (or missed lessons) are still chargeable. You can manage cancellations easily through your MakeMusic Studio account or by messaging us directly.

  • If Your Tutor Needs to Cancel: In the rare event that your tutor is unwell or away, you will never be out of pocket - we will try to reschedule when possible.

Join The Moray Music Lessons Community

We love celebrating our students' milestones - whether that’s mastering a tricky first chord, nailing a favourite song, or passing an SQA or graded music exam. We also share quick practice tips for home, studio updates, and the occasional terrible music pun.
